Facebook Refugee

I’m still processing the banhammer that The Evil Empire laid out, and I find I’m missing the community that I left behind. I’ve zoomed through the stages of grief for what I lost- 15 years of pictures and memories and people. So many people I met through so many avenues, and I only had this one tool to be a (small) part of their lives. And I’ll say it- I enjoyed the “likes” when people thought what I posted was clever or funny. Like when your tongue reaches for the hole where the tooth used to be, I pick up my phone and get a jolt that I don’t have that beaming blue icon any more.

So now I’m going long form. I hope that some people in my life are still curious what I’m up to and want to keep being amused by my wit. I’ve always had a low-key hankering to be a writer. Maybe this was the kick in the ass I needed to get started.

  1. I feel your pain; however on a slightly different level. I got ‘locked out’ of my old facebook account, and no matter how many times I try to reset my password and upload ID, I have never been able to log back in. I lost so many memories… My two children’s baby pictures. Messages from my (late) mother. Simple time stamps that marked something I wrote… The FB Overlord has won again 😦

    1. Ugh, sorry you’re in the same boat. I ostensibly got banned for making a joke that mentioned an illegal drug, but I believe it was really because when they flagged that post I complained in my feed about how ridiculous it was that they removed that post but allow rampant hate and misinformation. Corporate Overlords for sure.

  2. Good luck (with WP). I’m pretty sure, very very sure in fact, that WP users are quite different, massively different in fact from Facebook users.

I mainly ever used Facebook to keep tabs on (“stalk”) nephews and nieces and sons to whom I am apparently a ghost to.

I didn’t have any (luck on WordPress), but that’s probably a good thing.

Somebody wanted me to “FB message” and I didn’t know what that was, so I asked my son (who abandoned FB years ago). He was concerned, he said it’s mostly a platform for scamming old people like me. His roommate (we should change the spelling to ‘roomate’? LOL) chimed in: “mostly adult men scammers, adult men scammers pretending to be women, adult men scammers pretending to be children.” Sigh, what androcentrism. Of course there must be female scammers too!

But for those of us who have NOBODY else to talk in remote little places (or enclaves) where most people prefer to maintain their STRANGERHOOD, including me of course, the digital universe is a great place to vicariously experience rejection, futility, deception, insanely unrealistic expectations of honest relationships (or even conversations) without all the messy and distracting complications so-called IRL offers.

    1. I know *of* it, and I know the symbol since it’s been used by some punk folx. From my understanding it’s the belief that we can change the world by changing our beliefs about the world- but I don’t know how accurate that is.

  4. According to Wikipedia, some “chaos” folkes assert that.

But…..Belief can be a ball and chain. It is focused intention that that we puny humans can utilize to make our magicks work. But belief can be manipulated.

I look forward to reading your blog posts!

Oh, I’m experimenting with social magic. My blog will be down until October 1. Please check it out then.
